2 People Were Killed And Suspect Is Dead In Downtown Minneapolis Shooting

A shooting inside a downtown Minneapolis apartment building Wednesday left two people dead along with the suspect, and wounded five others including three police officers, authorities said. A 911 call came in just after 4:30 p.m., and officers reached the building and located victims within about two minutes.

Interim Police Chief Bill Peterson said officers followed the sound of continued gunfire to a higher floor where visibility was limited by an unexplained haze. One officer was shot in the leg and another twice in the abdomen; all three injured officers are expected to fully recover, and Hennepin County Medical Center said it treated seven patients total.

Authorities said they were familiar with the suspected shooter before the incident but released no further details, including how the shooter died. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said state officials were assisting local police, and FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau would offer resources to local authorities.
