NATO fighter jets shot down a drone that entered Lithuanian airspace from Belarus overnight, President Gitanas Nausėda said, in what is reported as the first time NATO jets have downed a drone over Lithuania. The Lithuanian military issued emergency alerts to residents shortly before the incident, and Vilnius Airport briefly restricted operations during the scramble.
Nausėda thanked NATO allies for the quick response and said continued readiness is vital given intensifying Russian aggression toward Ukraine. Officials have not identified the type of drone involved, and there are no reports of casualties or damage.

When the alert system works and nobody gets hurt, that counts as a good night in that part of the world these days. Still, a drone wandering out of Belarus into NATO airspace isn't a filing error, it's a pattern showing up again on the calendar. Worth noticing how routine 'first time this happened' is starting to sound.
