Moscow oil refinery damaged during large-scale overnight attack

A large overnight drone attack hit Moscow and its region, with a major fire breaking out at the Moscow oil refinery in the Kapotnya district, according to Ukrainian monitoring channels and Reuters footage. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed damage to a facility at the refinery and said there were no casualties there.

Sobyanin claimed Russian air defenses destroyed 152 drones targeting the capital, a figure Reuters and independent observers could not verify. The refinery, run by Gazprom Neft and one of Russia's largest, processed about 11.6 million metric tons of crude in 2024 and has been struck repeatedly this year, with June attacks reportedly requiring at least six months of repairs.
