White House Communications Director Steven Cheung used a slur against Daily Beast Chief Content Officer Joanna Coles on Friday, after she and an editor discussed reasons behind Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt's upcoming departure. Cheung, reached for comment, instead offered the insult and did not respond when told the outlet would report on it.

This is not new territory for Cheung, who has used the same word against members of Congress and a Senate staffer, and who called Coles a different insult last April after she questioned the president's reported weight loss. Other White House staffers have followed suit: a spokesperson called reporters 'mentally ill' and 'glue-sniffing,' and press secretary Leavitt once responded to a reporter with 'your mom.'

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A communications shop that responds to journalism with slurs and playground taunts has apparently decided decorum is optional and cruelty is the brand. The pattern spans staffers and insults, which suggests this isn't one bad day but standard operating procedure. Somewhere there's a White House style guide, and it appears to consist entirely of synonyms for 'shut up.'
