Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) described a heated confrontation with President Trump over his push to attach his name to the Kennedy Center, telling MS Now it was ‘the most unprofessional thing’ she had witnessed. She said Trump called her incompetent and an obstructionist, and that she fired back that he was the incompetent one.
The dispute followed a federal judge's rejection of the Kennedy Center board's latest attempt to add Trump's name to the building, a decision the administration has appealed. Roughly half an hour after that ruling, the board voted to close the center, citing dire financial and structural conditions. Trump has said he will halt renovations unless his name is added, and claimed on Truth Social he put $17 million into the center to ‘keep it afloat.’
Beatty, an ex officio Kennedy Center board member since 2019 and a plaintiff in the lawsuit against the renaming effort, told CNN she believes Trump targeted her personally because of that suit. Her office did not respond to a request for comment on the exchange.
