Russian forces struck Kyiv's Northern Bridge on the morning of October 3, damaging the road surface and the overhead trolleybus power lines, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, who said the span was partially closed to traffic.
The strike followed at least three drone attacks on the city's Southern Bridge on October 1 and 2, which damaged a support, a guardrail, the road surface, and the metro's protective concrete barrier, closing that bridge entirely. BBC Ukrainian reported these were the first strikes of the war on any of Kyiv's bridges across the Dnipro.
Kyiv has nine bridges spanning the river, carrying road, pedestrian, and rail traffic, with the Northern and Southern bridges among the busiest crossings. The closures have already pushed traffic onto the city's remaining bridges, producing jams across Kyiv.
