A car belonging to Dmytro Neielov, first deputy head of the Olenivka prison, exploded overnight in occupied Donetsk, according to Ukrainian media citing sources. Neielov was charged in absentia this spring by Ukraine's SBU and Prosecutor General's Office with war crimes for allegedly torturing and beating Ukrainian POWs and civilians.
Sources suggest an explosive device may have been planted under the vehicle. His condition has not been confirmed.
The prison itself was the site of a 2022 barracks explosion that killed about 50 Ukrainian POWs and wounded over 130, an attack Russia tried to blame on Ukraine.
