The Social Security Administration's annual baby name data shows Olivia was the most popular girls' name nationally but topped the list in only seven states, while Charlotte, ranked second nationally, was the top choice in 28 states. Liam was the most popular boys' name both nationally and in 15 states individually.

Some names stood out as local anomalies: Lainey ranked 30th nationally but topped South Dakota's list, Waylon was 56th nationally but first in West Virginia, and John, 23rd nationally, was Alabama's top pick.
