Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv will ensure calm skies over Russia while U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visit Moscow before traveling on to Kyiv on September 6. He said there would be no Ukrainian airstrikes during the visit and called on Russia to halt its own strikes during the subsequent Kyiv talks.

The trip marks the first time Witkoff and Kushner will visit the Ukrainian capital, arriving by plane despite Kyiv's skies having been closed to air travel since the invasion began; other delegations have used rail. Reports note Witkoff has previously found train travel to Kyiv difficult.
