Africa CDC warns Ebola outbreak not ‘under control’

The Democratic Republic of Congo's Ebola outbreak has caused more than 3,500 deaths among over 7,200 cases across seven provinces, according to Africa CDC, which put the toll at 7,404 cases and 3,577 deaths as of Thursday.

Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya said the outbreak is far from controlled, acknowledging only a plateau and slight decrease, a day after WHO's Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the world was gaining ground against the virus.

Congo's government spokesman claimed the outbreak peaked in late August, but Kaseya said some of those upbeat comments relied on incomplete data. There is no approved vaccine or treatment for the Bundibugyo strain driving this outbreak.
