Hyrox athlete Joanna Wietrzyk has forfeited her first-place finish at HYROX Beijing 2026 after competing with visible feces running down her legs partway through the race. She apologized on Instagram, saying she regretted not stepping off the track and was retroactively withdrawing to forfeit her points.

Co-founder Mo Fuerste apologized separately, acknowledging organizers mishandled the situation, and said new rules will prevent a recurrence; existing rules already penalize spitting or nose-clearing on the floor. Wietrzyk had initially posted a celebratory selfie captioned 'a win is a win' before backlash prompted her reversal.

Give the woman this much: she pushed through something most of us would have quit over, and then she handed the trophy back on her own. The organizers, who watched the whole thing happen and did nothing, now promise a rule for next time. Funny how the people running the show always find their spine after the race is over.
