Putin hosts Myanmar’s leader at Kremlin

Vladimir Putin hosted Myanmar's Min Aung Hlaing at the Kremlin, the junta leader's sixth visit to Moscow since the 2021 coup and his first since being installed as 'civilian president' after elections dismissed by Western governments as a sham. Russia's prime minister said Moscow is moving ahead on building a small nuclear power plant in Myanmar, and the two countries signed a memorandum on electricity and oil and gas cooperation.

Myanmar's military, which uses Russian-made jets against rebel factions, has been accused by U.N. investigators of attacks on civilians that some monitors call war crimes. Min Aung Hlaing told Putin that 'thanks to Russia's and your personal support we've achieved many results on the international stage,' a claim delivered without reference to the more than 100,000 people killed in the civil war since the coup.
