An Indian Express investigation found that Election Commission chief Gyanesh Kumar overruled the other two commissioners at least 14 times over ten months, decisions tied to the removal of about 130 million names from voter rolls, potentially in violation of rules requiring at least two-member agreement. The opposition Congress party and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal demanded Kumar's removal and, in Congress's case, a Supreme Court-monitored probe.

The Election Commission responded that the report presented “only one part of the picture” and insisted the decisions were unanimous outcomes of the full commission over the past year. The commission maintains the voter roll revision targets duplicate entries and undocumented immigrants, while critics say it disproportionately strips legitimate voters, including Muslims, ahead of elections favoring the ruling BJP.

Somebody's math is off, and it isn't the newspaper that printed the numbers.
