The Moscow City Court released four truck drivers held since Operation Spiderweb, the June 2025 Ukrainian drone strike that used their vehicles to hit Russian airfields. Investigators had charged the men, Andrey Merkuryev, Alexander Zaitsev, Mikhail Ryumin, and Sergey Kanurin, with terrorism, but First Deputy Prosecutor General Anatoly Razinkin refused to approve the indictment, citing insufficient evidence.

The drivers say they had no idea drones were hidden in wood-frame houses loaded onto their trucks, and that they called police themselves once the drones launched. A fifth driver died in the operation. Investigators still disagreed with the prosecutor's assessment and appealed, but the court sided with releasing the men anyway.

It says something when even the people building the case against you can't find enough to make it stick. The four drivers spent months in custody over cargo they didn't pack and didn't ask for. Sometimes the system corrects itself, sometimes it just runs out of rope to hang someone with.
