One of Russia’s largest refineries stops operating after drone strike

The Ryazan oil refinery, owned by Rosneft, halted operations after a Sept. 6 drone attack damaged its main processing unit, which handles roughly 160,000 barrels a day, or nearly half the plant's total capacity. A second primary distillation unit was also knocked out, and a third has been under maintenance since May, leaving the plant running on essentially none of its main lines.

Fire Point confirmed Ukraine's Defense Forces used an FP-1 drone in the strike, and Ukraine's General Staff also confirmed the attack. Repairs to the damaged units could take several weeks, according to industry sources, at a plant that processed 13.1 million tons of crude in 2024, about 4.9% of Russia's total refining output.
