Officials explained that Voterlink checks rely on last name, date of birth and postal code, which don't always uniquely identify someone, sometimes producing an inconclusive result that voters may misread as deregistration. The rumour has driven a high volume of calls to the agency, which expects more misinformation as the vote approaches.
Albertans can register in advance via Voterlink or in person on voting day, though those registering at the polls must sign a declaration first.
