At least 16 people were killed and more than 130 wounded when Russian drones struck a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, on Friday. Regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha said 22 children were among the wounded, with 29 people in serious condition including five children, and nine people reported missing.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said a second drone hit the same shopping centre roughly half an hour after the first, calling it a deliberate attempt to target emergency responders. A separate Russian drone strike in Mykolaiv the same day killed four people, including three children.
The attacks came as Russia escalates its air campaign nearly four and a half years into the war, with 17 people killed in a missile strike on Kyiv the day before. Ukraine has meanwhile intensified its own strikes on Russian oil and logistics infrastructure.
