Budanov says he personally tried to negotiate halt to long-range strikes

Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's Presidential Office, said at the Ukraine Tomorrow forum on Aug. 28 that he personally tried to negotiate a halt to long-range strikes by both Ukraine and Russia, but no agreement has been reached. He said the effort instead led to escalation, prompting Ukraine to respond with everything at its disposal.

Budanov separately said Ukrainian and Russian delegations could meet in September, with talks currently on hold but plans to revive them. A recent Atlantic report suggested Putin could consider ending the war by mid-2027 if Ukraine survives the winter and keeps its strike capability.
