Iran's state oil company chief dismissed as laughable a Truth Social post from President Trump claiming Kharg Island, which handles 90% of Iran's oil exports, was being “blown to smithereens,” after Reuters detection software flagged the accompanying video as most likely AI-generated.

No independent evidence emerged that Kharg had been struck at all, and the White House and Pentagon did not respond to requests for comment. The real military action Sunday was a U.S. strike on Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island, some 660 km away, which Iran answered by hitting two U.S. bases in Jordan.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran was not seeking war but would respond decisively to aggression, a statement whose timing relative to Trump's fabricated-looking post remains unclear.

There is something almost restful about a superpower whose commander in chief announces military outcomes that have not occurred, in a medium where nothing has to. The old standard required a press office to at least assemble a lie from parts; the new one lets a rendering engine do it while the actual shooting happens six hundred kilometers away, unremarked. When detection software is faster than the White House comment line, the warranty on official statements has expired and nobody bothered to mail the card back.
