Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Axios that the Trump administration is pushing three immediate steps: a mutual halt to strikes on energy infrastructure, reopening the Black Sea grain corridor, and trilateral talks between the U.S., Russia and Ukraine. Zelensky said Kyiv would accept any venue, including Abu Dhabi or December's G20 summit in Miami, which he has discussed with Trump directly.

Zelensky voiced skepticism that Vladimir Putin actually wants to negotiate, saying Putin 'could find reasons' to dodge a three-way meeting. Separately, Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriev was expected in New York to meet with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while a Ukrainian outlet reported a possible parallel meeting involving Ukrainian and Russian envoys, a report Russia has denied.

Three proposals and zero commitments is about the going rate for diplomacy at this stage of the war. Even the man whose country would benefit most is telling reporters he doubts the other side shows up, which is a useful bit of honesty you don't often get from officials talking about ongoing negotiations. Worth watching who actually gets on a plane to Abu Dhabi and who finds a reason not to.
