The Hong Kong AI International Film Festival Association says its newly launched AI Film Market completed transactions on 101 AI-made titles worth over $12 million, calling it the first at-scale commercial market for AI cinema.

Buyers include streaming platforms, airlines and hotels, with the association framing in-flight and hotel-room screens as ideal destinations for AI's ability to churn out multilingual, rights-clear content quickly.

Each title is tagged under a self-defined "51%-plus AI involvement" standard, and a festival spokesperson said buyers are paying for finished storytelling rather than an AI label, a claim the association's own press release is the only source for.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A nonprofit that runs the festival, the accreditation body, and the white paper announcing its own market's success is not exactly a neutral arbiter of whether AI cinema has "arrived." Selling content to captive audiences on airplanes who can't get up and leave is an achievement, but maybe not the one being claimed.
