Ukrnafta, the state oil company, is installing gabion blast barriers around Kyiv gas stations to contain shrapnel from drone strikes, its board chair announced. The stone-filled barriers are meant to keep fragmentation inside station perimeters rather than spraying it onto nearby roads and sidewalks.

The move follows a string of attacks: four drone strikes on Ukrnafta stations across three regions in a single day in early September, a Sept. 10 strike in Kyiv that injured four civilians, and a Sept. 11 double-tap attack on two Kyiv stations that killed two people and wounded eight more. The company says it halts fueling and evacuates stations during every air raid alert.
