Vance attacks El-Sayed at Michigan GOP rally without mentioning trade war with Canada

Vice President JD Vance campaigned in Sterling Heights for Michigan GOP candidates John James and Mike Rogers, calling Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed 'evil' over his comments after the Temple Israel attack and his association with streamer Hasan Piker.

Vance never mentioned the ongoing U.S.-Canada trade war, including new tariffs on Canadian goods and Canada's retaliatory taxes set to begin Sept. 8 on $27.6 billion of American products, despite trade talks having stalled entirely.

James separately blamed Michigan's economic and education struggles on Democratic control of state government, even while some of those issues, like educational attainment, have proven bipartisan and persistent, and others depend on federal decisions.

Calling an opponent evil is certainly one way to fill a rally speech without addressing the tariffs currently raising prices for the very auto workers in the room. Silence, in this case, said more about the administration's confidence in its trade war than anything Vance actually said.
