David Jolly, the Democratic candidate for Florida governor, is publicly pressing the national Democratic Party to spend money in his race against Republican Byron Donalds, after Decision Desk HQ shifted the contest to a 'Toss up' with Donalds's win probability dropping from 68% to 60%. Donalds has raised more than $115 million through his political committee, compared with Jolly's $15.8 million combined.

Jolly argued that Donalds' spending could effectively buy false claims into public belief, specifically citing Donalds' ad claim that Jolly's property insurance plan amounts to a '$1,000 tax,' based on a report Jolly says is being misrepresented. Democratic strategist Jackson McMillan pushed back publicly, arguing Jolly should build grassroots small-dollar fundraising rather than wait on the national party.

Jolly also confirmed he will not debate Donalds this cycle, saying he doesn't want to 'platform' what he calls Donalds' falsehoods, while a new survey of 1,511 Florida policyholders found 55% see no improvement in the insurance market and 26% say it's getting worse.

A candidate saying he can win as long as somebody else's checkbook shows up is a familiar tune around election season, and it rarely ages well in the retelling. A month ago Jolly said you could get outspent ten to one and still win; now the number's more like seven to one and suddenly it's a crisis. If the plan hinges entirely on national donors noticing Florida, that's less a campaign strategy than a hope mailed to Washington.
