A Yolo County jury acquitted Carlos Reales Dominguez of murder and attempted murder but convicted him of two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the 2023 stabbing deaths of Karim Abou Najm and David Breaux, and the wounding of Kimberlee Guillory in Davis, California.

Judge Sam McAdam found Dominguez legally insane at the time of the attacks, following defense testimony that he suffered from schizophrenia and believed he was fighting shapeshifters. McAdam committed him to a state hospital for a minimum of 180 days, despite noting Dominguez has already served more time than the maximum sentence for his convictions.

Family members of both victims gave statements describing their losses, and David Breaux's sister told the court she forgives Dominguez. The Yolo County District Attorney's Office has filed a petition to extend his commitment by two years, with further extensions possible indefinitely.
