Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are now likely to visit Kyiv on Sunday, Sept. 6, according to a source cited by RBC-Ukraine, after an earlier report said the trip was in doubt over Witkoff's security concerns amid Russian attacks. Travel arrangements were still being worked out, the source said.
A source told Kyiv Independent that Russia does not want the envoys in Kyiv and that Witkoff, described as sensitive to Russian sentiment, was being told the visit was dangerous. Witkoff has visited Russia six times since 2025, including as recently as late January 2026, but has never visited Ukraine.
The trip follows an Aug. 24 announcement by President Zelenskyy of a joint ceasefire and buffer-zone plan developed with Trump's team and European officials, and an Aug. 31 call between Zelenskyy and the envoys to discuss scheduling and front-line conditions.
The full dispatch is available from the source below.

Six trips to Moscow and zero to Kyiv is a travel record that speaks louder than any diplomatic statement. If a mediator gets nervous about the side that's actually under bombardment but not about the side doing the bombing, that is not caution, that is a scale with its thumb already on it. Showing up now, on the third try, is better than never, but it is worth noticing who had to be talked into the room.
