Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said Russia aims to raise monthly diesel exports to 3-3.5 million tons by year's end, claiming sufficient capacity following Trump's deal with Putin to supply global diesel markets. Trump had announced figures of 300,000 tons, then 500,000 more in November, then a further million tons soon after.

Russia's diesel exports had collapsed from over 3 million tons monthly due to Ukrainian strikes on refineries and its own export restrictions, per Reuters. The deal followed Trump's call with Putin on October 9, after which the Kremlin lifted its export embargo early; Trump has since blamed Zelensky for the lack of a broader peace deal and suggested Ukraine 'choose a new president.'

A country whose refining capacity has reportedly been getting hammered by drone strikes announcing it will outproduce the numbers an American president bragged about on a phone call is the kind of boast you'd expect from a man selling a car with the odometer rolled back. The administration frames this as a path to lower gas prices and a peace deal; so far it has produced a diesel shipment and a public suggestion that the other side's elected leader step down. That is a strange definition of progress for anybody counting.
