Reuters: Ukrainian attacks are pushing Russian grain out of the Black Sea and into the Baltic

Russian grain exporters are rerouting shipments from the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to Baltic ports, mainly in Latvia, after Ukrainian strikes disabled more than 80% of Russia's grain export capacity, according to Reuters. Last season Russia moved 46.3 million tons through Black Sea and Azov ports versus just 1 million through the Baltic; this season Baltic rail bookings had already hit 5 million tons by mid-August, nearly matching the Black Sea's 6 million.

Russia's Grain Union estimates Baltic exports could reach 5 to 6 million tons this season, or 10 million if Estonia opens its ports to the trade. August wheat exports totaled just 1.9 million tons, the lowest level in 16 years.
