Federal Court Is Asked To Block Kennedy Center From Returning Trump's Name To Building

Rep. Joyce Beatty has filed an emergency request asking a federal court to block the Kennedy Center from re-inscribing Donald Trump's name on the building's facade, arguing the board's new resolution violates an earlier court order. The board voted to add wording crediting Trump as having restored and renovated the center, with a further inscription promised if a Trump-branded fund hits $100 million.

A federal judge already ruled in May that adding Trump's name violated the law establishing the Kennedy Center as a memorial to JFK, and ordered it removed; the board complied in June but left scaffolding and a tarp over the spot. Lawyers for the center now won't commit to removing that scaffolding, citing unrelated roof repairs, while the board's own resolution claims the institution would face financial ruin without Trump's fundraising and 'developer' talents.

A federal judge said no once already, so naturally the response was to leave the scaffolding up like a placeholder reservation and try again. Calling the president an unparalleled fundraiser and world-class developer in an official board resolution is not persuasion, it's an audition tape. The law is explicit about not memorializing anyone else on that building; apparently explicit just means 'optional if you have the votes.'
