Presidential office deputy head Pavlo Palisa denied he would become Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, saying he cannot legally hold military and diplomatic posts simultaneously and won't leave military service during the war. He was among names floated by RBC-Ukraine last week alongside former Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

Zelenskyy said on Aug. 22 he already has a candidate in mind, describing the ideal pick as an experienced communicator able to work Washington's senators and think tanks. The post has been vacant since Olha Stefanishyna's dismissal, which followed a corruption notice of suspicion and 6 million hryvnia bail; other names previously floated include Yulia Svyrydenko and Rustem Umerov, the latter of whom instead became intelligence chief.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A vacancy this consequential has now cycled through enough names to fill a small cabinet, with the one person supposedly holding the answer offering only that there is, indeed, an answer. Ukraine's Washington posting is starting to resemble a musical chairs game where the chair itself keeps getting reassigned mid-round.
