Bethany Antonia, a professional on Strictly Come Dancing, wore a T-shirt reading 'Protect the Dolls' during a training session that was posted to social media and later deleted, with the slogan blurred out in the footage.
The phrase has circulated since the 1980s as a rallying cry for the safety of transgender women. Trans activists have called the blurring an act of censorship by the BBC, which has not been quoted here explaining its editing choice.

A broadcaster blurring three words on a shirt is not exactly the Stasi at work, but it is the kind of small, nervous edit that makes everybody look worse than if they'd left it alone. The BBC could have just left the shirt in frame and let people have their opinions about a dancer's wardrobe. Instead somebody reached for the blur tool and made a bigger story than the shirt ever was.
