Pakistan allowed 724 trucks of humanitarian relief cargo to cross into Afghanistan via the Torkham border crossing, according to the UN's resident humanitarian coordinator, who publicly thanked Islamabad for keeping the route open.
The crossing has otherwise been shut to all trade since October 2025 following deadly clashes between the two countries, a closure that has also stopped Afghan transit cargo through Karachi and contributed to displacement of tens of thousands of Afghans.
Pakistan's foreign minister welcomed the UN's praise, framing the truck convoy as facilitation of aid for Afghan people even as broader tensions continue, including Islamabad's accusations that Kabul harbors militants responsible for attacks inside Pakistan, a charge Kabul denies.
