An Omani pilot allegedly stabbed the captain of a Flydubai flight carrying roughly 180 passengers from Dubai to Tel Aviv and attempted to crash the plane, according to Israeli broadcaster Channel 12.

The aircraft transmitted a hijacking signal, changed course, and landed safely in Saudi Arabia; passengers reportedly entered the cockpit and overpowered the armed man before the plane went down.

Israeli authorities are now investigating how the Omani pilot cleared the security screening required for crew flying into Israeli airspace, a question that arrives only after the fact.
