Snopes examined a spreading claim that sailors and Marines aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, deployed in the Arabian Sea amid the ongoing US war against Iran, are facing food and supply shortages, mold, and other deteriorating conditions. Senator Cory Booker amplified the claim, and an MS NOW report cited unnamed families describing moldy showers, food shortages, and shortages of toothpaste, deodorant and soap during the carrier's ninth month at sea and fifth month of combat operations. A 5th Fleet spokesperson described the crew as 'resilient.'

Snopes could not independently confirm the conditions and left the claim unrated, while noting the ship has been at sea 259 days according to tracking site Cruising Earth. This is not the first such report: similar food shortage claims surfaced in April 2026, which Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth dismissed on social media as 'FAKE NEWS.'

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
An outlet that can neither confirm nor deny whether sailors are eating properly is doing its job by saying so plainly, which is more than can be said for a defense secretary whose go-to rebuttal to hardship reports is a tweet in all caps. If the conditions really are fine, opening the ship to reporters would settle it faster than any hashtag.
