Poland will not block opening of negotiating clusters for Ukraine

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said in Kyiv that Poland will not block the opening of negotiating clusters in Ukraine's EU accession talks, while cautioning that opening clusters does not mean closing them quickly. He noted the European Commission considers Ukraine ready for negotiations, and floated the idea of Ukraine joining the EU single market before formal membership.

Hungary remains the actual obstacle, with Prime Minister Péter Magyar continuing to block approval of screening results for two negotiating clusters and arguing Ukraine should face no accelerated procedure. Magyar also said a political understanding on minority rights for Hungarians in Ukraine has yet to produce practical results.
