The argument arrives fully assembled and entirely circular: the thing is happening because we are winning, and we know we are winning because the thing is happening. Nobody is named, no policy is identified, and no goose is specified — yet we are instructed not to kill it, which implies someone, somewhere, is reaching for the axe. This is the rhetoric of a man defending a boom he did not build from a threat he cannot describe, in a unit of measurement (“by a lot”) that no auditor has ever accepted.
