✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
An American president reading another country's returns as personal validation is not diplomacy, it is fan fiction with a state seal on it. The causal claim gets asserted in all capitals rather than argued, which is the house style for things that cannot be checked, and the finale is his own slogan with a letter swapped out, as if sovereignty were a merchandise line. Somewhere a foreign ministry is drafting a statement; here, the head of state is simply doing color commentary on a game he was not in.
