✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A sitting president has turned the bully pulpit into a book club of one, and the selection is a volume in which he is the hero. The tell is the admission that the author “understands me, perhaps better, than I understand myself” — a strange thing to advertise, since it means the endorsement rests on a self he concedes he cannot fully see. Then comes the leap from literature to the economy: the country is the “hottest” anywhere, a superlative with no unit, no scale, and no way to be wrong. All-caps commands to purchase are not statecraft; they are an infomercial with a seal on it.
