The post achieves something rare: an expression of sadness that reads like a victory lap. There is no event here, no date, no detail — just a foreign country, a capitalized abstraction, and a WOW deployed the way other people use a drumroll. Sovereign nations are not scoreboards for a man who mistakes any misfortune abroad for a citation of his own correctness, and grief phrased as gloating is not grief. If the argument is that borders explain everything, the argument could at least name the thing it claims to explain.
