Hundreds of billions is not a number, it is a mood — no account, no date, no instrument, nothing a person could look up and disprove, which is precisely the design. The selflessness is likewise self-certified: he tells us the money went to the country rather than to him, and the evidence offered is that he said so. Then comes the pivot every hero of this genre makes, from titan of finance to wounded party, criticized so unfairly that all he can do is post about it. A man genuinely earning fortunes for the public would have receipts; a man posting about it has an audience.
