Follow the arithmetic here: the Party is doing so well that it must immediately dismantle a Senate rule or be extinguished by two places full of American citizens who might vote wrong. That is not a warning about democracy, it is a complaint about it — the danger described is people casting ballots and those ballots counting. And the phrase about controlling the machinery of voting, legal and otherwise, is doing an awful lot of confessing for a sentence that thinks it is an accusation. A president who can only survive if the electorate stays exactly this size has told you the quiet part in all capital letters.
