✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A president who claims to have predicted the market's direction that morning is offering us a theory of economics in which everyone else has been wrong for exactly twenty-five years, a span that happens to fit neatly inside one man's grievance timeline. Note the structure: the numbers were great, therefore any bad outcome is proof of a False Reality run by “stupid people.” The GDP figures floated here — 15, 20 percent — belong to no large developed economy in living memory, which is presumably why they read better in all caps. And if growth truly never caused inflation, one wonders why the argument requires shouting.
