There is a particular genre of denial that functions as an advertisement, and this is the platinum edition: the rumor arrives, fully formed, in the mouth of the man denying it. Note the rhetorical structure — a question asked and answered by the same person in the same breath, which is how you argue with an accusation nobody made. And note the tell: the outlets get renamed with a schoolyard tweak, because the reflex to rebrand institutions after one's own preferences is apparently not confined to theaters. A man who needed no help imagining this honor is asking us to believe he would refuse it.
