The Ninth Circuit upheld final approval of a class settlement against Google over allegations it kept tracking and storing users' location data even after they switched off Location History. The court found a formal claims process would cost more to run than the payouts would be worth to individual class members.

Money will instead be distributed without requiring users to file individual claims, since each share would be too small to matter on its own.

There's a certain poetry in a privacy settlement concluding that your slice of the payout is too tiny to be worth the paperwork of giving it to you properly. The tracking was apparently valuable enough to do continuously and secretly, just not valuable enough to repay precisely.
