Kacey Hester, one of three masked gunmen who fired roughly 18 bullets at a car in West Hollywood in 2022, testified against his former associate, Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk, in a murder-for-hire trial in Los Angeles. The shooters missed their apparent target, rapper Quando Rondo, but killed his cousin Saviay'a Robinson. Hester, who has pleaded guilty to the murder, said Durk promised a large cash reward for the killing and called afterward asking how many times they had shot.

Prosecutors say the ambush was retaliation for the killing of Durk's friend King Von, and that Durk is charged with murder-for-hire alongside two co-defendants; Durk denies involvement and attributes the planning to another man. Hester testified he had second thoughts before the shooting, calling the plan sloppy and unsafe, and said he came forward in 2023 after a parole-violating gun arrest.

Durk's attorney used cross-examination to portray Hester as a self-interested cooperator hoping to reduce his own sentence, which Hester denied. Rapper Ye attended a session of the trial as a spectator.
