Mykhailo Fedorov, fired as Ukraine's defense minister in July after reported friction with military commander Oleksandr Syrskyi, has agreed to advise Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto on defense innovation. Crosetto says he called Fedorov the day after his dismissal to make the offer.

Fedorov maintains his primary focus remains Ukraine, where he says he continues work on defense and resource projects. Separately, an unpublished poll cited by The Economist put him third in a hypothetical presidential field, behind President Zelensky and former commander Valery Zaluzhny.
