The White House issued a proclamation marking the fifth anniversary of the August 26, 2021 Abbey Gate bombing in Kabul, which killed 13 U.S. service members and wounded dozens more, along with over 160 civilians. The proclamation names each of the fallen and designates August 26, 2026 as a day of commemoration.

The document also devotes substantial space to blaming the Biden administration's withdrawal decisions, including the Bagram Airfield departure, for the conditions that led to the attack. The president credits himself with apprehending the ISIS-K bomber and delivering him to what the proclamation calls 'the swift sword of American justice.'
