An Enbridge Line 5 natural gas transmission line leaked near Saxon, Wisconsin, after an unoccupied truck rolled over an open excavation site for a valve project. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, no injuries were reported, and the affected line was not carrying crude oil.

Enbridge reported the incident to federal and state authorities within roughly an hour, and officials shut down the line while monitoring air quality and calculating the volume released. A temporary no-fly zone and road closure remain in effect around the site.

The Sierra Club of Wisconsin noted that Enbridge had argued in court just last week that concerns about its Line 5 reroute construction were unwarranted and that the project was 'under control.' The pipeline has faced years of legal and environmental challenges from the Bad River Band, whose land a federal court found Enbridge was trespassing on.
