✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
In this telling, a bombing campaign ends because the people being bombed politely asked, which is a new theory of deterrence and a flattering one for the bomber. Iran is somehow too broken to matter and powerful enough to steer American elections, a contradiction the author settles with an inflation figure so precise it outlasts any need for a source. Then comes the sign-off: a head of state vowing to be there afterward and never forget, which is not diplomacy so much as the last line of a ransom note. An official who has to announce he isn't on the ballot is usually describing exactly what's on his mind.
