It takes a particular kind of mind to watch a woman killed on a train and conclude that the real casualty was North Carolina’s reputation, a lament the post offers twice, as if the state’s brand were the one bleeding. The figures arrive with no source beyond ‘I have just learned,’ the 1988 history lesson garbles the famous furlough into a pardon, and an entire election is chalked up to a single cause because that is the version that serves the point. Then the grief is folded neatly into a campaign flyer, complete with a résumé for Michael Whatley built on ‘unprecedented Victories’ in party administration. Iryna Zarutska deserved better than to be turned into a yard sign.
